Chelsea Set For More FA Cup Success Under New Boss Andre Villas-Boas

The FA Cup has been a punters paradise for many years now with the bigger clubs dominating the competition, in the last 17 seasons on only two occasions has a team who has finished outside of the top four won the FA Cup. The only problem with that statistic this season is that the top four is unlikely to be that clear cut so perhaps it is best to narrow it down just to the ‘big six’ this year which will include last year’s top four as well as Spurs and Liverpool.

Liverpool look a better bet than Spurs this season for the FA Cup, Kenny Dalglish will be keen to deliver trophies and the FA Cup will be very high up in Liverpool’s priorities whereas Spurs have the Europa League to contend with this season and didn’t do well in the domestic cups last season which shows where their priorities lie.

Arsenal have now gone six seasons without a trophy and don’t really look like winning one any time soon, they seem to be going downhill if anything and have finished the last two seasons very poorly which would jeopardise their chances in the semi final and final if they were to get that far. Man City won the FA Cup last season and winning a trophy was very important to both the club and Roberto Mancini last season. This season however the Premiership and Champions League will be their priorities and even though their third string would still do well, you can’t just put a bunch of talented players together for a game every so often and expect them to do well.

Man Utd are favourites with many bookies to win the FA Cup yet they haven’t really done that well in the FA Cup in recent years, their last FA Cup final was in 2007 and their last FA Cup win was in 2004. It seems no coincidence that they have reached three of the last four Champions League finals and in that period of time have failed to reach an FA Cup final, they clearly value other competitions higher.

Chelsea are the other favourites with most bookies and they have a very good record in the competition recently, they have won the FA Cup three times in five years and with the pressure on Andre Villas-Boas to win trophies in his first season it would be no surprise to see Chelsea do very well, especially as they are traditionally a very tough team to beat home and away.

Overall Chelsea look a very good bet to win the FA Cup this season with doubts about many of the other teams, if there is a fly in the ointment it is probably Liverpool and it could be worth having a small saver on Kenny Dalglish’s side.
