Doncaster Rovers – Transfer News & Npower Championship Preview

Doncaster finished the 2010/11 season in the final safe position in the Championship, although they were by the final day clear on points and in no danger. Just 2 wins since the turn of the year did not help their cause. For most of the season they were doing no more than holding their own against better sides. But they found enough to survive and get a second bit of the cherry in 2011/12.

Very little activity transfer wise thus far for a club on a budget. Waide Fairhurst has left for Macclesfield and Ryan Burge has move to pastures new, albeit to Hyde Fc. They are the only two reported departures at this stage, whilst the incoming players number a brace too.

Experienced defender Richard Naylor who helped Leeds Untied in their promotion back to this division but found only limited opportunities joins to bolster a defence that saw only relegated Scunthorpe concede more goals last term. And Kyle Bennnet, a promising 20 year old defender who had an excellent season with Bury in League Two last year comes in.

There probably needs to be more action at the Keepmoat if the side are to survive this year, and odds for relegation reflect that, with them joint favourites with Barnsley at 7/4 for the drop. That price actually looks OK, and the advice is to take it now as August and September fixtures do not look easy.

Recommendation: Relegation looks a heavy possibility, the price may not get any bigger than the 7/4 available before a ball has been kicked
