Spurs To Inflict First Sunderland Defeat For O'Neill

Spurs returned to winning ways against Shamrock Rovers on Thursday after their unlucky loss at Stoke last week but that 4-0 win in Ireland wans't enough for Harry Redknapp's to progress in the Europa League, a fact that won't upset too many Spurs fans as they can now concentrate on the league. Sunderland needed a last minute goal to make it a fairytale opening game win for Martin O'Neill but that was a home game against Blackburn, away at Spurs things will be very different.

Younes Kaboul was sent off last week against Stoke and serves a one match ban, Ledley King could return but with Chelsea coming to White Hart Lane on Thursday Harry Redknapp could choose to save King until Thursday and play Sebastien Bassong here instead. Roman Pavlyuchenko is still struggling with a back injury whilst Jermain Defoe may have to settle for a place on the bench despite scoring during the week in the Europa League.

Lee Cattermole is back from suspension whilst Nicklas Bendtner is back in training follwoing a groin problem but both have been in trouble with the law this week and it remains to be seen if either start on Sunday. Craig Gardner has overcome a hamstring injury but it was Martin O'Neill who sold the player from Aston Villa to Sunderland so Gardner may not have much of a future at the Stadium Of Light.

Tottenham's winning streak may have come to an end last week but since Adebayor and Parker joined the club they have won every league game and a 2-1 win at home to Blackburn doesn't prove that Sunderland are any better under Martin O'Neill than they were under Steve Bruce. Spurs are likely to dominate possession in this match and they should have few problems justifying their odds at White Hart Lane for the sixth consecutive game.
