Van Persie Can Edge Closer To Shearer's Record Against Wolves

After the start that Arsenal made to this season not many would have predicted that at Christmas they would be very much in contention for a top four place but Arsene Wenger has turned his side around and will be hoping to continue the improvement in the second half of the season. Wolves have been hovering above the relegation zone for the entire season and it looks as though it will be another tough battle in the second half of the season for Mick McCarthy's men, he still hasn't won over all the fans but everyone will be cheering his name if he keeps Wolves in the Premiership again this season.

Arsenal's injury problems in defence continue to mount, Kieran Gibbs who has had an injury nightmare in the past couple of seasons has suffered a setback and the left back has been ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. The good news for Arsenal is that Johan Djourou could make a quicker than expected return from his groin injury whilst Alex Song is definitely back after serving a one match ban.

Wolves have no new injury concerns going into this trip to the Emirates, a trip that has been pushed back one day because of a tube strike in London. Mick McCarthy is hoping that there will be quick returns for Jody Craddock and Dave Edwards, the pair are struggling with hamstring and groin injuries respectively but could be fit for this game.

The Arsenal ValueChecker Wikis highlight Robin Van Persie's goalscoring record this year and he has carried last season's form into this season, he has scored thirty four league goals in 2011 which leaves him just two goals short of Alan Shearer's record of thirty six in 2011. Van Persie doesn't really need any extra motivation to keep on scoring but he has it in this match and he comes up against a struggling Wolves defence that hasn't kept a clean sheet since August and has conceded twelve goals in their last five matches. Robin Van Persie looks an outstanding bet to score at anytime in this match.
