Drybrook Bedioun to land minor shock

Published on 19/03/2010 02:37

The Foxhunter is such a difficult race to predict as not al the form is readily available and its always such an open event. This year however we could have one that could potentially run away with it. Baby Run is sure to give another good account of himself on this course, he is always reliable and consistent in his shows, but just has a tenancy to find one too good, or at least have trouble getting past that same one. He looks as though he can hold both Robbers Glen and…

Kauto to be Firm Footed for Ruby

Published on 19/03/2010 02:20

This is the big one then Kauto Star V Denman (Pt 3). This is the billing this race has got and with Denman winning the Hennessey with one of the greatest weight carrying performances ever seen and Kauto showing what he can still do in t he King George the battle is truly on. Even the weather is playing a part as at this stage we still don't know what its going to do, but sure as eggs is eggs this ground at present will be better for Kauto than Denman, and the more rain that…

Williams just out done by Tito today

Published on 19/03/2010 01:50

Tito Bustillo has some nice form in the book, and so has Bellvano who has the beating of him when they last met. That was on level weights however, and Tito gets a 6lb pull today. That should be enough to turn that form around and the Nichols runner is taken to do just that. Additionally if thats not put you off Bellvano, remember by backing him today you will be following one that has never raced on anything but a flat track before and on this course you need to run up hill,…

Libertino the pick of the Brian Meehan pair

Published on 19/03/2010 01:36

A 3-y-o claimer to digest here and needless to say, the market may provide some illumination. Brian Meehan runs a couple and Martin Dwyer, it would seem at any rate has chosen to ride LIBERTINO of the pair. This Bertolini colt made his debut at Goodwood last May and ran a fair race considering how green he looked. Put away until the Autumn, he returned with a good effort at Windsor, where he was able to quicken quite well on the fast turf. Hasn’t really built on those…

Barizan to bulge the satchels for starters

Published on 19/03/2010 01:35

What a great start of the day we have in the opening race on the final day at Cheltenham the festival 2010. And the bookies must be rubbing tier hands once again as this is a really difficult race to unfold. however, i im pretty confident i have done it. Pittoni is what i think this race actually revolves around, and not those toward the top of the market. if you go back to this ones debut run when trained by John Ox you'll notice he was up against a certain stable mate by …

Roshina to relish the extra furlong

Published on 19/03/2010 00:45

This race has the potential to be run at modest pace and I cannot see who is going to take them along. There are a few that need holding up and I don’t think this race is one where it is sensible to get heavily involved with anything that needs a fast pace to chase. ROSHINA improved from her English debut to get within half a length of Lady Kent last time and that was despite her missing the kick. Could well be poised to win a race over here and the step up to a mile…

Streets Of War if the money arrives

Published on 18/03/2010 22:34

STREETS OF WAR may be worth siding with here with his yard being bang in-form. It may be significant that the colt was asked to make his debut in a class 4 maiden at Newbury and he was quite short in the betting. Beaten a fair way but probably didn’t really appreciate the soft ground and may be a different proposition here after nearly 5-months off. The market will be the best guide for sure and I would certainly want to see the boxes above turn blue. Barry Hills runs…

Can Alfie get home before Cupid?

Published on 18/03/2010 21:45

A tight claimer this and in contrast to what is the norm in such races, there are a few that actually appeal as opposed to deciding which is the least unlikely. ALFIE TUPPER managed a couple of really close second places at the start of 2010 in reasonably competitive low grade handicaps. Didn’t run to his best on third quick run but freshened up since and returned in good form when again second at Wolves last week. Hasn’t dropped into claimer that often and whilst it …

September may Rain on the Opera

Published on 18/03/2010 18:58

A nice small field to look at here and a couple stand above the rest on the evidence available. Preference is given to SEPTEMBERINTHERAIN, who has shown more than enough ability to collect an ordinary maiden. Not that he looks in any way solid, as he didn’t seem to enjoy it much during his last race and now blinkers are thought to be needed. Not certain he will appreciate stepping up in trip either but the 8-week break might have sweetened him up and this looks a good…

Nicholls pair could Byrne off their rivals

Published on 18/03/2010 11:15

Paul Nicholls looks to hold a very strong hand here and preference is just for GWANAKO. Andy Stewart's prolific winning 7-y-o is not the easiest horse to place, being short of top class but not really built to carry big weights in handicap company. Last season, he had a fairly light campaign, the best performance on the figures being his fifth here behind Imperial Commander in the Ryanair. This season, he has managed to unseat at Ascot and then run a moderate race under…

Take Boychuk to win the Kim Muir for in-form Philip Hobbs

Published on 18/03/2010 02:58

If I said I had narrowed this field to a shortlist of 9 worth backing, I wouldn't be fibbing and this looks the hardest race of the festival thus far to solve. After much consideration and bearing in mind the prices on offer, I am siding with BOYCHUCK for a yard that have peaked at the right time. The gelding is not unexposed, but he does have a very good track record and he has regularly been able to run to a rating of around144. Not thrown in on 134 then but it is a fair…

South O' The Border can land the Pertemps Final

Published on 17/03/2010 23:41

The Pertemps final is a hugely competitive handicap without exception and although with any handicap at this level you want to focus primarily on those who may improve, the race does lend itself to the more exposed winner as well. That may be to do with the 3m trip and I am going to take a chance with what I consider to be a lively outsider, SOUTH O’THE BORDER. Although a relative veteran with 45-races to his name, he has only raced 13-times over hurdles, winning 3 and…

Dave's looks a Dream bet in the Jewson

Published on 17/03/2010 22:09

DAVE’S DREAM looks to have the ideal profile for a race like this and it may be that team Henderson and Geraghty could be about to gain another handicap success. With only 10-races under his belt, it is reasonable to assume the selection has the potential to improve, a definite requirement in a race like this. That’s a tick in one box and the next question on the standard list would be course form, ideally at the festival. Tick again with a fair sixth behind runaway…

Bank on Pendragon to bag Southwell finale

Published on 17/03/2010 21:59

It's difficult to look beyond PENDRAGON, who has scored here at this track last twice, winning a better race than this here yesterday. The manner of that victory strongly suggests that he will be able to do himself justice if turned out again quickly under a penalty. Rub Of The Relic has proved himself to be capable in low-grade handicaps in the past, but his inconsistency makes him a risky betting propostion. Indeed, very few punters were willing to chance him in a…

Whooshka can waltz home

Published on 17/03/2010 21:51

This is a trappy-looking affair and not one of the quintet set to go to post can be ruled out with confidence, although Country Road has more to prove than his rivals. The vote goes to WHOOSHKA, who has bounced back to form since switched to this surface, scoring over C&D at the beginning of the month before proving that to be no flash in the pan when runner-up to Essej, again over C&D, seven days later. She is actually 1lb lower here compared to her last outing and…

Follow Fol Hollow in competitive sprint

Published on 17/03/2010 21:41

FOL HOLLOW scored first time out last season and while it's fair to say that he is a better horse on turf than on artificial surfaces, he makes plenty of appeal here off an all-weather mark 8lb than that off which he was a highly creditable fourth to Green Manalishi when last seen out at Haydock in September. Where's Reiley is firing on all cylinders at present, winning four of his last five starts, all four victories coming over this C&D, and will take some…

Bull can whip up a frenzy

Published on 17/03/2010 21:25

On paper, BULLWHIP stands out like a sore thumb in this maiden. The son of Whipper cost £340,000 and is related to a number of Pattern-class performers and he represents a yard which boasts a thoroughly impressive 43 per cent strike-rate at this track. If there is confidence behind him in the betting that will be an ominous sign for his rivals. Of the opposition, Victory Ide Say has to be considered one of the more interesting types. The Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained…

A value Choice in Southwell claimer

Published on 17/03/2010 21:07

NOT MY CHOICE has work to do on these terms, but at the forecast odds he's worth taking a chance on in a race that could well go his way. Indeed, the five-year-old possesses plenty of early toe - enough to think that he will readily see of Irish Music for the lead - and he could prove hard to catch. Novay Essjay has benefited from the switch to Dandy Nicholls' yard, landing a handicap on debut for this yard over C&D in January. He has run well in defeat in two…

Style Award can fashion a victory at Southwell

Published on 17/03/2010 20:54

A typically competitive sprint handicap at this track and while Grudge should make a bold bid with Seb Sanders aboard, but I'm convinced that STYLE AWARD's turn is near and, today could be her day. Now 6lb lower in the weights compared to when successful on turf last spring, the daughter of Acclamation finished well when beaten less than a length into third behind Sherjawy at Kempton last month. This is her first start on Fibresand, but if she takes to it she will surely …

Albertas Run has a good win left in him and could be the value

Published on 17/03/2010 20:14

The Ryanair Chase nicely fills a gap that existed for horses not quite quick enough for the Queen Mother but without the stamina for the Gold Cup. This year, we have horses which fall into both camps and Poquelin and Tranquil Sea head the market. Both horse look vastly improved this season and it does no harm at all to be on an upwards curve. Poquelin steps out of handicap company after a trio of fine efforts here at Cheltenham, including when winning on fast ground here in…
